Dough
- 1 ½ C
warm water
- 2 T
sugar
- 1 T
active dry yeast
- 3 ½ C
flour
- 1 t salt
Topping
- ½ C
butter
- 2 t
minced garlic
- ½ t
salt
- 1 t
dried basil
- 1 t
dried oregano
- ¼ C grated parmesan cheese
Marinara Sauce (if desired)
- 2 T
olive oil
- 1 T minced
garlic
- 1 (6
ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (8
ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 T
basil

- In a
large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook,
mix water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Add
the flour and salt. Mix until smooth.
- Cover
with a towel and let rise for 10 minutes.
- On a
floured surface, roll the dough out into a square. The dough should be
about ¼ inch thick. Mix ¼ C butter and 1 t minced garlic together. Spread
the garlic butter over the whole dough square. Sprinkle with salt.
- Fold
the square in half and cut the dough into 1 inch wide strips with a pizza
cutter. Twist each strip and place in on a baking sheet. Let rise for 20
minutes.
- Bake
at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While
the breadsticks are still warm, melt the remaining butter and add 1 t
minced garlic, salt, basil, and oregano. Brush the herb butter over the
breadsticks, and top with Parmesan cheese.
